If you enable UTF-8, you don't need to type HTML entities. Otherwise, you only need to type entities if the characters are missing from the character set $Charset of the wiki. Note that recent browsers will automatically convert any special characters in the text area into HTML entities if the characters are not in the current character set. Also note that the search function may not work well with HTML entities.
